The Centre links organizations operating in the energy sector and the community to help realize opportunities associated with energy resources in Atlantic Canada and the American Northeast. It provides a conduit between government, the education and research sectors, and the community at large to foster partnerships and engage in energy-related issues.
Colleen has spent her working career in Atlantic Canada in sectors associated with energy, transportation and infrastructure.
Upon graduating with high honours from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Commerce (supplemented by courses towards an MBA at both Dal and UNB), Colleen began her energy career at Irving Oil.
For over a decade she was immersed in the energy industry in positions across the company including: oil futures, refining, marine, rail and over-the-road transportation, bulk storage, information systems, human resources and public relations.
In addition, as Vice President, Marketing and Communications at one of the region’s largest engineering firms, Colleen was responsible for domestic and international marketing programs for projects in over 40 countries around the globe. Projects included energy recovery from waste, co-generation plants, power plant conversions, and environmental technologies.
She also held senior positions in the transportation sector in both marine and aviation.
Most recently, Colleen joined the Atlantica Centre for Energy as President, in a role that helps to foster the exchange of information and dialogue to further the region’s energy opportunities.
Michelle has more than 20 years of progressive public relations and business management experience. She comes to the Centre from NBCC Saint John as an award-winning instructor in the Business Administration Marketing program. She is also the Owner/Operator of Accent Events, a corporate event management and consulting company.
Michelle is fluently bilingual and has lead research projects and community engagement initiatives as a consultant for various government and community groups with her own company and as a community volunteer. In various communications and media relations positions with the Financial and Consumer Services Commission (formerly New Brunswick Securities Commission) she issued complex securities-related communications, and coordinated capital markets and consumer public relations initiatives at local, regional and provincial levels. She began her career working 10 years for the regional economic development agency in entrepreneur development, business attraction, immigration and community engagement developing and implementing key economic development initiatives.
Michelle holds her Business Administration Degree from University of New Brunswick Saint John and is a Certified Instructor from New Brunswick Community College.
Her experience working in and fostering dialogue among industry, government, academia and community stakeholders provides her with a solid insight and will benefit the role of President for our regional energy think tank.
